Often referred to as ‘Dinosaur Isle’, the Isle of Wight is the ideal location for discovering the Dinosaur Era with your very own Fossil Guru.

Rentaguru is proud to present action-packed, fully catered residential weekends with world-famous palaeontologist Martin I. Simpson.

An established expert on Cretaceous fossil crustaceans , Martin has appeared on the British News Media and in the BBC TV series ‘Life from Dinosaur Island’. Deeply knowledgeable and passionate, Martin is known as the ‘Dinosaur Man’.

Martin is associated with the discovery of Isle of Wight amber, a hard translucent fossilized resin produced by extinct coniferous trees of the Tertiary period which is typically yellowish in colour and has been used in jewellery since antiquity. He has produced important papers on the Cretaceous Lower Greensand Group, successfully proposing that the five units of the Atherfield Clay Formation be formally recognised as local members. He has produced a popular book on fossil hunting, titled ‘Fossil Hunting on Dinosaur Island’, and was heavily involved in the excavation of a significant specimen of the ankylosaur Polacanthus .

In addition to breakfast, afternoon tea, and dinner being served in beautiful Manor Houses, Martin will be on hand to lead an informative, fun, and often breathtaking exploration of the dinosaur footprints (real and historical) around the beautiful Isle of Wight. A born performer, Martin’s good nature and cheery grin along with his exquisite knowledge and love for all things prehistoric will impress and astound you. Everyone finds a piece of dinosaur treasure to take home with them. You might find something truly valuable, or even discover the remnants of an as-yet unknown species!

Manor House accomodation is nestled in countryside with views out over the sea toward France. Ensuite single/twin/double rooms, large kitchens, lounges, dining rooms with tables large enough to accomodate the whole group, games rooms (table tennis, pool table), hot tubs, and more. Any specific activities, such as water/land sports, cultural tours, spa treatments etc. can also be arranged.
